Finding reliable sources of information about your local news and politics is an important first step to getting more involved! Here are some of my favorites for news related to Greenville County and South Carolina. I'll update as I find more!
Local Greenville County Resources
- About Greenville County Council: Find out who's on the council, when they meet, what's on the agenda, and check out the minutes (the official notes) from past meetings, among other helpful information. The main council meetings are live-streamed so you can watch from home.
- Greenville County Library Board of Trustees: The Greenville County Library system website is a wealth of great resources and information. One of my goals is to pay closer attention to the Board of Trustees and the decisions they make regarding our local library. The 2026 meeting schedule is not online as of early January 2026, but I plan to watch this page so I can add those to my calendar.
- Greenville County School Board: I have school-age kids, so I have an obvious interest in knowing more about the decision-making process in my local schools. Board and committee meetings are live-streamed.
- Council Chairman Benton Blount's Substack Newsletter: Benton Blount, current County Council Chairman (and also my local representative), has a weekly newsletter that's a wealth of information about what happens at the county council meetings along with what he's hearing from constituents.
- Post and Courier Greenville: At some point I signed up to get news emails from the Post and Courier Greenville, but I can't regret it because I've already found out several things about the city and county that I live in because of it. A good way to keep up with local news.
Statewide Resources
- The State House Gavel: I've only just discovered this one. SC Public Radio posts stories here that are about the current legislative session in South Carolina. Hoping this will be a great source of information about what's happening in statewide government.
- South Carolina Lede: SC Public Radio also has a politics podcast, if you're into listening to podcasts. Another great way to keep up to date on what's happening in state politics.
- SC ACLU: The SC ACLU send emails with information about local legislation, often links to forms that make it easy to email your representatives about it.
- WREN: The Women's Rights and Empowerment Network also sends periodic emails about upcoming legislation along with easty-to-use forms to send your thoughts to your representatives. You can use their templates or edit them with your own writing.
