"Jeanville County" is the ridiculous name I've given my blog where I document my adventures getting involved in my local government. Hi, my name is Jean, and I live in Greenville County, South Carolina.

Hello!

Growing up, I didn't have a roadmap for following along with local politics. My parents didn't pay much attention to politics in general, with some exceptions when it came to national news.

I've heard people say things like "not everything has to be political" or "leave politics out of this" about various topics. But what in our lives isn't political on some level?

What our children learn in school? Political decisions affect that.

Whether we have access to safe, affordable childcare for infants and toddlers? Political.

Our access to healthcare and the cost of insurance? Political.

Whether the products we use every day are regulated and safe? Political.

When and if roads get repaired? Political.

Whether companies and influencers can lie to us about the products they sell? Political.

How much food costs, since so much of it comes from other states and countries? Political.

How much money employers have to pay us for the work we do? Political.

There are political decisions made at the local, state, and national level that affect all of these issues. And I aim to better understand how those decisions are made and how I can be sure my voice is heard in the decision-making process. Because these things affect my life and my family.

I'd love it if you want to follow along on my journey, especially if you live in Greenville County or elsewhere in South Carolina.
