I found that it takes more than a simple online search to find out who is running for County Council outside of my own district. I'm writing this blog in my spare time, and as a mom of two who also works a full-time job, "spare time" is in limited supply. I need this information at the top of the search results when I look for it.
In this post, I'll try to save you from sifting through confusing search results and paywalled local news articles.
One of the most comprehensive resources I found is the Simple Civics: Greenville County podcast. If you don't listen to podcasts, you can read the transcripts on their website. Their search feature seems pretty good at finding what you need, too.
The podcast is created by Greater Good Greenville, a "community accelerator" that supports the work of local nonprofits. From what I gather, Greater Good Greenville was started in 2022 by merging two existing nonprofits, the Nonprofit Alliance and the Greenville Partnership for Philanthropy, into a single entity. It's a nonprofit that helps nonprofits, from what I can tell.
There's a lot of misinformation and disinformation out there. Always check the about pages and know your sources, y'all!
Ballotpedia also has a list of who's running and in what races. Ballotpedia is a nonprofit that aims to provide unbiased information about American politics.
2026 Greenville County Council Information
Before we get into the details, you've got some more homework!
Download your sample ballot from the South Carolina Election Commission website!
The Sample Ballot shows you which races you'll be voting in. This is the easiest way I've found to know which races most directly affect you. I always download a my sample ballot before the election so I can do some preliminary research on the candidates.
Some of the candidates for Greenville County Council are running unopposed, so you don't really get a choice unless you voted in the primary last June. But it's still important to know who is representing you and where they stand on the issues that are important to you!
